First-person POV at midnight in a small Tokyo apartment on a summer night, by the cold blue glow of a monitor. A teenage boy's hands, short sleeves of a loose plain white T-shirt, pour boiling water into a white paper cup of instant ramen with a red band, and hold the lid shut with wooden chopsticks. Close on the steam escaping. Close on the wavy golden noodles. Close on his mouth slurping, lower face only. No eyes. Sounds: slurp, cicadas. (it is a dark night, he is in the darkness)
